The dream debut of Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar made his debut against West Indies in West Indies in year 1971. He played 4 test matches and in those eight innings his score was 65, 67, 116, 64, 1, 117*,124 and 220. Gavaskar scored 774 runs in those eight innings of his first series. This is the best debut performance for any Indian opener till date.

Gavaskar scored 236 not out in his 99th test at Chennai in December 1983 against West Indies (full scorecard), which eventually remained his highest score in test matches.

Sourav Ganguly magical debut against England

Sourav Ganguly debut was also like a dream come true. He has scored back to back centuries against England in England. Like Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly also scored a double century in his 99th test match. At Bengaluru in December 2007 against Pakistan Ganguly scored a dashing 239 runs in India’s first inning. Ganguli was the second batsman of India who scored a double century in his 99th test match (full scorecard).

VVS Laxman, 3rd Indian to score a double century in his 99th Test

VVS Laxman debut was never like Sunil Gavaskar or Sourav Ganguly. In fact his first century came after waiting for 17 long matches but as we all know once he started he kept going. He was one of the pillar of Indian middle order for around 10-12 years after that.

VVS Laxman played an inning of 200 not out in 1st inning against Australia in November 2008 at Delhi. He was awarded man of the match for this match (full scorecard).
