TIED test matches
Since the first ever test match played in 1877 between England and Australia, in around 150 years of test cricket history, there are only 2 rare occasions of tied test matches. A tied test match is a very real result when both the team have scored the identical number of runs after finishing both of their innings. There are only two TIED test matches in history of world cricket. And coincidently both the times Australia was part of it.
First TIED test match between Australia and West Indies 1960 (Australia vs West Indies 1960 tied test)
Tied test match 1960 between Australia and West Indies was the First tied match and was played in December 1960. Chasing a target of 233, Australia were bowled out on 232 on 5th day of the match.
In this match, Davidson was the first man to complete the match double of 100 runs and 10 wickets in a Test match.
Australia was on the verge of losing the match when they lost their 6th wicket at 92 in their second innings. But then the partnership of 134 for the seventh wicket happened between Alan Davidson and Australian captain Richie Benaud. It was a record for Australia against the West Indies for 7th wicket (full scorecard).
Second tied test match India vs Australia 1986 (tied test 1986)
Second tied match was played between India and Australia in Sep’1986. This match was even more interesting. Chasing a mammoth total of 348 runs on a challenging 5th day wicket of Chennai, India started very well and was looking in a very comfortable position to win the match when they reached to 331 for 6 wickets. Only 17 more was needed with 4 wickets still in hand. Suddenly Indian tail collapsed and India hardly able to manage to reach to 347 resulted the second ever tied test match (full scorecard).
